Phrases and sentences like this make me cringe whenever I hear people speak them, especially people who claim to be Christians. Our words are one of the most powerful things we possess. They can lift us up or tear us down. They can inspire others or cause others to feel despair. Words can bring forth life, but they can also destroy lives.
Statements like the ones above can flow easily from the lips. However, as Christians the words that come from our mouths should be different. When we accepted Jesus as our Lord and Savior, he created in us a clean heart, and it is from our heart that words flow. So as Christians the change in our hearts should manifest words that are wholesome, pure and loving.
The ramifications of your words can be devastating in your life and the lives of the people around you. Words are so powerful that there are many scriptures in the Bible that minister to us on using them wisely. One of the most popular scriptures is Proverb 18:21, which says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.” But my favorite is Psalm 141:3 which says, “Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips!”
For years I was one of those individuals who always found something negative to say when varying situations would arise in my life. I think for me it was a coping mechanism or way for me to deal with the situation if things didn’t turn out the way I wanted. As I would make negative statements my mother would always remind me not to speak negativity into my life. It wasn’t, however, until I fully got into God’s Word that I realized how the things I would say affected my life and the lives of those I loved.
Because of God’s Word I live differently today. I try and speak nothing but positivity into my life. I remind myself daily that I am more than a conqueror. I am precious in God’s sight. He loves me and I am His child . . . the child of the Almighty King. Greater is He who is within me than he who is in the world. Finally, I remind myself that I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
If your dash seems to be filled with negativity, doubt and despair, try changing what you say. By speaking positive affirmations you will draw unto you positive energy and you will speak life into every situation.
