It’s rare that I start off a post with scripture. I usually like to reserve that for the middle, but today I would like you to understand upfront where this post is coming from. Second Corinthians 5:17 says, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”
In this scripture we learn that once we accept Christ into our life we are no longer the same as we were before. When He enters into our life we are renewed and should act upon new principles and rules; this even includes the company we keep.
When you accept Jesus into your life, things should change for the better. Things that you did in the past should no longer interest you, nor should they feel natural for you to partake in. For example, if someone was a liar before accepting Christ, lying, after accepting Christ, should feel as foreign to him or her as another language. The same is true of an adulterer or a fornicator; once you’ve asked Christ into your life, you should feel bad about doing those things.
As we quickly approach the end of 2016, take an inventory of your life. If you are a Christian, the nature of a Christian should be transparent in your life. If you’re not a Christian now is the time to make that change. Once you do make that commitment, and you are born again, you have to be ready to let go of old things, including bad habits and inappropriate friends.
Going into 2017 I understand that there are some things and people I have to leave behind in order for me to grow in my walk with the Lord. I am committed to God and look forward to Him using my life as He sees fit.
Throughout our dash we will be faced with varying situations, circumstances and obstacles. We have to put all of that into perspective and figure out, with the help of the Lord, what is the right course for our life.
Remember, however, if you’ve turned your heart over to Christ and accepted Him as your personal Lord and Savior, you are a new being and therefore not subject to the things of your past life. May God bless and keep each of you, and may 2017 bring you ample joy, peace and love.
